“We had different cinematic themes every day”
“Czechflix”, the very smart title of the Summer University of AEGEE-Brno and AEGEE-Praha, said it all. This event was about Czech culture as well as movies and TV shows, which inspired the programme. The event took place from 4th to 14th of July 2024.
Golden Times: What was your Summer University about?
Aneta Hyrossova, organiser: Our SU featured different cinematic themes every day, together with AEGEE-Academy workshops and the best vibe, all in four different Czech cities.
GT: How many participants and how many organisers did you have?
Aneta: We had 24 amazing participants and around 40 organisers and helpers.
GT: What were the greatest thematic programme highlights of the SU?
Aneta: Each day, our participants woke up to a new genre and dressed up according to different movies and TV shows, for example Masterchef, Eurotrip, Peaky Blinders or even Squid Game. As a part of our experience, our participants were also involved in Academy workshops, where they learnt skills that could rival any secret agent’s toolkit. During workshops we were talking mostly about leadership and teamwork. Every day there was also a short 10-minute Czech cultural window with the aim to teach our participants the most important things about our country.
GT: What were the funniest or most exciting moments?
Aneta: Most exciting was definitely the visit of a brewery in Pilsen where each of us had an opportunity to try their delicious beer and then we also enjoyed exploring the cave systems in Macocha. In Brno, we prepared a unique Squid Game themed city crawl that sometimes felt too real and the survivors of the game could also enjoy a pool at a party afterwards.
GT: How was the group of participants?
Aneta: After 10 days we all felt like a family, we shared a lot of wonderful moments together and it was really hard for everyone at the end to say the final goodbye.
GT: How successful was the SU overall?
Aneta: Participants, as well as organisers, agreed that this year’s SU turned out even better than we all expected. We found new friends, but most importantly we created lifelong memories together.
GT: Anything you would like to add?
Aneta: Thanks to our movie-themed SU and the Eurotrip movie night in Prague the song “Scotty doesn’t know” will be stuck forever in our heads. We sang it literally every day and it was even played in a club one night.
