AEGEE Summer Universities

The Summer Universities (SUs) are courses organised by the local chapters of the European students association AEGEE. They are on average two weeks long and take place between June and September.

The Summer University Project was born in 1988 with the intention to promote the European integration. This project is the main tool of AEGEE to attain this ambitious but challenging target ever since. Since that time, it has been continuing every year with the participation of more than 50,000 young people, inside and outside of the European Union.

AEGEE is a non-profit organisation. The courses are organised for students by students – and therefore incomparably cheap. You can’t expect luxury, but awesome hospitality!

What the Fee Includes

The fee usually includes lodging, two meals per day, transportation during the event, admission fees – and the parties! Not included: transportation to and from the event and optional activities.

Variety of Courses

Each SU has a theme related to European Integration, Intercultural Dialogue, Education, Culture or Personal Development. The topics range from language classes to photography or sailing.

Feel the European Spirit!

In an SU you will explore a new culture, discuss political topics, dance to different music… You will learn to say “Hello” in ten languages, you will love, experience and feel the AEGEE spirit!

Local Food and Culture

During an SU you will not only taste new food and drinks, you will dive deeply into the culture. And during the European Night party you will have the chance to cook and show your culture to everyone!

Friends, not Tourist Guides

Imagine arriving at the station in Italy, an organiser picks you up and says: “You want to taste our best icecream? Let’s go!” The AEGEE hosts show you their city and you will never feel like a tourist.

HOW TO APPLY

Summer Universities are an exclusive service for AEGEE members. Fortunately it is very easy and cheap to become one: there are 111 branches in more than 30 European countries – from Las Palmas to Tartu!

How to become a member

On the AEGEE-Europe homepage you will find a map with all branches. If there is no local group in your city, join one of the nearest ones. The annual fee is usually between 15 and 50 Euros. Joining AEGEE comes without any obligations.

How to choose an SU

After joining AEGEE, you get an account on the Intranet (MyAEGEE). With this you can choose a Summer University and apply. You need to include a motivation letter to the local organisers. The select the participants is based mainly on this letter.

When to apply

The applications are usually open from mid-March until May. There are always some very popular courses with more applicants than places, but also some less popular. In May the courses with vacant places issue open calls.
