Locations like they were created by the Greek Gods
“It’s All Greek to Me” usually stands for something you don’t understand. During the Summer University of the same name by AEGEE-Athina, the opposite happened: The participants gained a profound knowledge of Greece and Greek culture. It took place from 22 July to 3 August 2022.
Golden Times: What was your Summer University about?
AEGEE-Athina: Our Summer University had the title “Its All Greek to Me” and as the title says the SU was all about Greece. It spanned from visiting Ancient Greek monuments to learning about Greek culture, food and traditions.
GT: How many participants and how many organisers did you have?
AEGEE-Athina: There were 32 participants, we had 2 organisers and 8 helpers.
GT: What were the greatest thematic programme highlights of the SU?
AEGEE-Athina: The SU lasted 12 days in total and started in Athens. We stayed there for three days; afterwards we went to Kalamata and on the way we visited Epidauros and Nafplio. The SU ended in Elafonisos which was the location after Kalamata. While in Kalamata, we visited Mani and other places around Peloponnese. One of the most memorable moments was the hike we did to Polylimnio waterfalls where the location looked like it was created by the Greek gods and the water was so clear that you almost could see the full reflection of yourself.
GT: How was the group of participants?
AEGEE-Athina: The participants were amazing, all 32 of them, full of energy, eager to join in, participate and learn about everything we had prepared for them.
GT: How did you manage to integrate the group of participants? Any special advice?
AEGEE-Athina: There was not a specific strategy in the integration of the participants it just happened, probably because of how amazing they were and easy to work with. Our special advice would be to pay a lot of attention on the selection process of the participants.
GT: How successful was the SU overall?
AEGEE-Athina: The SU was pretty successful. Everyone had a great time and bonded together to the point that even after six months our SU group chats are still active.
