AEGEE-Catania: “We want to spread our love for Sicily’s culture”
AEGEE-Catania was voted “best Summer University organizer” for several times in a row. This summer, their course has the title “SUn-kissed in Sicily” and takes place from 5th to 17th of August. There are 40 places, application deadline is 7th of May 2023.
GT: What is the main topic of your SU this year?
AEGEE-Catania: The one topic, which is our aim too, has been and always will be giving to our participants a full immersion experience into the “Sicilianity”. We are deeply attached to our culture and we want to spread our love for it. It is always moving to hear an international friend saying “Mbare” – which means literally “mate”.
GT: Why did you choose the topic “Sicilianity”?
AEGEE-Catania: Because diving into our tradition, gestures and idioms is the only way to enjoy with their own eyes, mind and taste a history which is shaped by dozens of dominations. Our participants will also experience the magical mix between the Sicilian Sea and Mount Etna. They will experience what it means being SUn-kissed 365 days a year.
AEGEE-Catania organises frequent trips to Mount Etna for Erasmus students – also the Summer University participants will see Europe’s biggest active volcano.
GT: What will be the greatest thematic programme highlights of the SU?
AEGEE-Catania: There will certainly be the essential AEGEE-related workshops and those concerning the Sicilian culture. In addition, the University of Catania will provide a workshop about current issues, for instance migration.
The participants will also see the beautiful town Taormina.
GT: Let’s talk about the leisure part of your SU. What are the three main programme highlights in this area? Which cities and landmarks will you visit?
AEGEE-Catania: As many of you know, AEGEE-Catania offers a lot of cultural and leisure activities to Erasmus people. Our Summer University concentrates the activities of a whole Erasmus semester in just two weeks! About trips, we will visit the jewelry of Eastern Sicily: Siracusa and Taormina.
GT: What will you do for fun?
AEGEE-Catania: Unlimited days spent at the beach, pool and beach parties. Have you ever danced under the stars standing next the highest and most active volcano in Europe? Oops, no more spoilers!
GT: How much is the fee and what is included in it?
AEGEE-Catania: 190 Euro including two meals per day, accommodation and transfer to the daily cultural and fun activities.
GT: There is also an optional fee. How much is it and what is included?
AEGEE-Catania: The optional fee is 50 Euro and includes the trips to Taormina and Etna.
GT: Who is the ideal participant?
AEGEE-Catania: Our ideal participant must be energetic and smiling, ready to engage new adventures, needs no sleep and – most importantly – must love sea & sun!

GT: AEGEE-Catania was voted “best Summer University organizer” several times. What your local branch special or famous?
AEGEE-Catania: During the pandemic-related restrictions in the last years we seriously thought it would be the end of our weekly activities, our Erasmus linguistic aperitif, our workshops and our history. However, we decided to make a new beginning. So, what does make AEGEE-Catania unique? The power to always restart. And how we did it? Because formally we are members, practically we are a family.
