AEGEE-Pescara SU 2025: No phone for 10 days in Italy’s greenest region
Can you survive without your smartphone for 10 days? In the Summer University “DeTech 5.0”, AEGEE-Pescara dares you to reconnect with nature, people, and yourself from 30 August to 7 September — in the heart of the wild and wonderful Abruzzo region. No Instagram filter needed.
GT: What is the title and what is the main topic of your SU this year?
AEGEE-Pescara: “DeTech 5.0: Survive in the Greenest Region of Europe” is a fully immersive experience in the nature of the Abruzzo region, Italy — with one challenge: don’t use any modern technological devices!
GT: Why did you choose the topic?
AEGEE-Pescara: This is our 5th international event with this topic. The idea of living like it’s 25 years ago — when social media weren’t essential to make friends and every problem was solved without asking ChatGPT — continues to fascinate us!
GT: What will be the greatest thematic programme highlights?
AEGEE-Pescara: We will explore the Abruzzo’s national park, where you might spot Marsicano bears, Apennine wolves, and other animals native to our region. We will also discover hidden gems in ancient towns, some older than Rome, and visit incredible medieval castles like Rocca Calascio — listed as one of the top 10 castles by National Geographic. There will be workshops on making homemade pasta and other traditional dishes, or learning how to take photos with vintage instant cameras – yes, there will be a contest!
GT: Let’s talk about the leisure part of your SU. What are the programme highlights in this area?
AEGEE-Pescara: You’ll enjoy beach games, swimming in the sea, getting lost in the charm of old towns, relaxing in Pescara, and recharging in the peaceful forests we’ll pass through.
GT: What else will you do for fun?
AEGEE-Pescara: Oh, and of course — the parties! We’ll host a traditional folklore night, a European Night, a 85’s Night, and much, much more!
GT: How much is the fee and what is included in it?
AEGEE-Pescara: The Fee is 250 Euro and includes accommodation, two meals per day – an Italian breakfast and lunch/dinner with local food – and activities like castle tours and workshops.
GT: How much is the optional fee and what is included in it?
AEGEE-Pescara: 30 Euro for a cycling day along the Cerrano coast and a visit to the Cerrano Tower, nestled in the large pine forest near the beach. This beautiful area once was a meeting point for various European cultures and it’s one of the best spots near Pescara.
GT: Who is the ideal participant?
AEGEE-Pescara: The ideal participant is curious during the day and ready to have fun at night. Easy-going at the beach, passionate about Italian food — and above all, ready to challenge themselves to survive 10 days almost without a phone!
GT: What can you tell us about your AEGEE local, what makes it special or famous?
AEGEE-Pescara: Our local was born in the Covid era — we are young, unknown, a little mysterious. But our members always stand out at the events they attend. In sci-fi terms, you could call us the North Korea of the AEGEE multiverse – but only in a good way!
GT: Where can interested people find out more about your SU?
AEGEE-Pescara: On MyAEGEE (https://my.aegee.eu/summeruniversity/detech-su-2025), our social media channels and our website (https://sites.google.com/aegee.eu/pescara/events).
GT: Do you have a message to potential applicants?
AEGEE-Pescara: Dear applicants, some people here in Pescara don’t believe you can survive more than two days without your phone. So bring your spirit of adventure, adaptability, and survival — and prove them wrong. See you in August!
