SU Istanbul 2023: “Get to know this crossroad of cultures and civilizations”
Istanbul is like no other city, its history rich, its culture unique. AEGEE-Istanbul gives you a chance to get to know the city on two continents at the Summer University “Mysteries of Centuries Vol.2”. It takes place from 21st to 31st of July 2023.
GT: What is the main topic of your SU?
AEGEE-Istanbul: Our SU’s main topic is “Mysteries of Centuries”. During the ten days, we aim to introduce participants to the diverse cultural, social, and historical aspects of Istanbul.
GT: Why did you choose it?
AEGEE-Istanbul: Istanbul is a city that has been at the crossroads of cultures and civilizations throughout history. We wanted to showcase the city’s unique diversity and encourage intercultural dialogue and understanding among participants.
GT: What will be the thematic highlights?
AEGEE-Istanbul: Our SU will have a strong focus on intercultural learning and understanding, with discussions and workshops on topics such as cultural differences, stereotypes, and prejudice. There will be guided tours to historical places in Istanbul, workshops about Turkish culture, and a Turkish language course as part of our programme. We will also organize creative and fun events to cross the boundaries.
GT: Let’s talk about the leisure part of your SU. What are the highlights?
AEGEE-Istanbul: Our leisure activities will include a boat tour on the Bosphorus, a visit to the Princes’ Islands, and two days of camping. Participants will also have free time to explore the city’s landmarks and neighborhoods, such as the Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace, and Taksim Square.
GT: What else will you do for fun?
AEGEE-Istanbul: We have planned activities like a Eurovision karaoke night, a barbecue party, and a farewell party. Participants will also have opportunities to try Turkish cuisine, experience the city’s nightlife, and bond with each other.
GT: How much is the fee and what is included in it?
AEGEE-Istanbul: The fee for our SU is 200 Euro, and it includes accommodation, two meals per day, transportation, and programme costs.
GT: How much is the optional fee and what is included in it?
AEGEE-Istanbul: The optional fee is 50 EUR, and it includes extra activities such as Topkapi palace and a visit to a Turkish bath.
GT: Who is the ideal participant?
AEGEE-Istanbul: Our ideal participant is open-minded, curious, and interested in learning about different cultures and meeting new people from around Europe.

AEGEE-Istanbul: We a dynamic and active local that organizes various events and projects throughout the year. We are known for our hospitality and cultural activities, and we have a strong focus on intercultural exchange.
