SU Bucureşti 2023: “Experience the magic of Romania”
AEGEE-Bucureşti’s Summer University has the title “Romania’s Summer Escape: Embracing Timeless Festivities” this year. It is all about the country’s rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning natural landscapes – and takes place from 21 July to 4 August.
GT: What is the main topic of your SU this year?
AEGEE-Bucureşti: This year’s Summer University is all about embracing our roots and celebrating the country’s vibrant culture, fascinating history, delicious cuisine, rich traditions and customs, and electrifying music and dance. We are offering you a chance to experience the magic of Romania, immerse yourself in our unique traditions and customs, and discover the wild and wonderful side of our country.
GT: Why did you choose the topic?
AEGEE-Bucureşti: For us, being Romanian means feeling an intense and passionate connection to our roots, especially during difficult times. No matter what challenges we face, we always find comfort in the beauty of our cultural traditions and artistic expressions. We believe that these rich and vibrant aspects of our heritage deserve to be shared with the world.
GT: What will be the thematic highlights?
AEGEE-Bucureşti: We want to offer our participants a diverse range of activities that will allow them to rediscover themselves through the intensity of Romanian culture. Some activities aim to showcase various facets of traditional cultural accumulation, such as city tours focused on historical aspects of cities. For example, in Constanta, we will discuss the ancient Greek citadels. In Bucharest, we will present the architectural dissonance between the interwar period and the communist era. In the cities of Transylvania, we will discuss the late Middle Ages until the Great Union, and much more. We will also have workshops on various topics, including traditional Romanian dance, pottery, life in the mountain pastures, and Romanian language. An important aspect that reflects the theme are the carefully selected tourist attractions. These include the Constanta Casino on the Black Sea coast, The Great Mosque of Constanta, the Statue of the Greek Poet Ovidius, the Palace of Parliament, the National Bank, the Romanian Athenaeum, the Palace of Spring, the Village Museum, the Hunyadi Palace, and many others.
GT: Let’s talk about the leisure part of your SU. What are the programme highlights in this area?
AEGEE-Bucureşti: Our journey begins in Constanta, a city perched on the ruins of Tomis, an ancient Greek colony. Take a well-deserved break and soak up the sun on the beach, build sandcastles, and party until dawn. Then, it’s off to the vibrant capital of Bucharest. We will explore the city’s unique architecture, stroll through parks and open-air museums, and experience the city’s legendary nightlife. On the Transalpina, one of the most breathtaking roads in Romania, we’ll immerse ourselves in the rustic charm of mountain life, visit stunning gorges and natural reserves, and get a taste of traditional shepherding. Finally, we’ll venture into the heart of Transylvania, where we’ll uncover the real history of vampires.
GT: How much is the fee and what is included in it?
AEGEE-Bucureşti: Experience the adventure of a lifetime for only 210 Euro! Our all-inclusive package includes two delicious meals a day, transportation within the country, access to numerous tourist attractions, and exciting activities. And that’s not all! As an optional extra (50 Euro), you can access a range of exciting activities such as visiting the Aquarium in Constanta, exploring the Palace of Parliament, strolling through the gardens of the Spring Palace, venturing into the depths of Salina Turda, or admiring the majestic beauty of the Huniazilor Castle.
