AEGEE-Torino: “Discover Piedmont, its amazing winelands and colorful hills”
AEGEE-Torino’s annual Summer University “W.I.N.E. 2023 – Water Isn’t Nutritious Enough” has quite a long tradition. This year it will take place from 23rd of July to 5th of August. There are 35 places, application deadline is 7th of May 2023. Emanuele “Lele” Bergese, main organizer of the event, gave the Golden Times an interview why no one should miss it.
GT: What is the main topic of your SU this year?
Lele: The main topic is not only the importance of wine in Italian culture, but also the discovery of Piedmontese culture. Also, foreign people usually never expect to see Turin as the colorful city it is, that’s why we want to let people discover an unexpected reality.
GT: Why did you choose the topic?
Lele: In Piedmontese culture, wine is one, if not THE most important historical, cultural and economic resource. Nowadays the wine industry is also working in order to help with climate change’s issues.
The participants will be overwhelmed by the beauty of Piedmont.
GT: What will be the greatest thematic programme highlights?
Lele: We will teach our participants how to cook like an Italian, they will not leave without knowing how to make a pizza or a Spritz. Also, they will know how to properly drink wine and learn the difference between the several typologies. They will also learn how Italian people speak, aka how to use your hands properly! Maybe this skill could be the most important one if you are planning to visit any other Italian city. [laughing]
GT: Let’s talk about the leisure part of your SU. Which cities and landmarks will you visit?
Lele: Our participants will discover Turin not only like visitors, but see it like a local. Other cities we will visit are: Barolo, the capital of Piedmontese wine, and its amazing winelands and colorful hills. La Morra, Caluso, and some other cities, but this is a surprise. GT: What will you do for fun?
Lele: Everything obviously! The Summer University is always an event where people have fun, and this one will be legendary! Some activities we are planning to have: wine tastings, Italian cooking workshops, visit some of the most famous European museums and also a lot of parties!
GT: Who is the ideal participant?
Lele: The ideal participant is not afraid of adventures! Are you an energetic person? Do you like meeting new people from all over Europe? Are you ready to leave your comfortable house? Are you ready to ignite your AEGEE spirits? Are you ready? “No” is not an option! If you, who are reading this, have answered YES to all these questions, then yessss! You are our ideal participant.
GT: What can you tell us about AEGEE-Torino, what makes it special or famous?
Lele: Our members are lovely, energetic and sometimes crazy, but always responsible. We are always ready to greet our fellow friends from AEGEE with love, every time we can we are glad to meet people from other AEGEE teams, or even old members to share experiences and stories with.

GT: Do you have a message to potential applicants?
Lele: Last year I participated in my first Summer University. It was an amazing experience, where I learned a lot of things, visited amazing places with lovely people and built strong friendships with many of them. The Summer University project is not only an occasion to have a vacation in some European city with people from the network. It is a mix of emotions and experience, and I hope this year our participants will share the same feelings.
