SU Leiden & Tilburg 2024: : Immerse yourself in Dutch mysteries and folklore
There are so many stereotypes about the Netherlands. The Summer University “Mysteries of the Low Lands” will look beyond them and share with you things about the country you did not know or expect – while having tremendous fun. AEGEE-Tilburg and AEGEE-Leiden organize this exciting event from 18th to 28th of July 2024.
GT: What is the main topic of your SU?
SU Team: Uncover the hidden stories and treasures of the Netherlands! Join us for an exhilarating journey filled with workshops, games, and captivating stories. Immerse yourself in the enchanting charm of lesser-known cities, where mystery and folklore await around every corner.
GT: Why did you choose the topic?
SU Team: We wanted to pick something that might not come to mind immediately when thinking about the Netherlands, but would be intriguing to know more about. There are so many interesting, cute, fun and outright weird stories around for you to uncover. But in the end the best stories will of course come from our SU, which you will tell all about for the years to come!
GT: What will be the thematic programme highlights?
SU Team: Immerse yourself in Dutch mysteries and folklore while gaining insights into Dutch language, culture, and the country’s drug policy. Explore the principles of Dutch democracy through engaging sessions at Pro Demos. Experience Pink Monday, an event of the Tilburgse Kermis dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community to promote inclusivity and diversity.
GT: Which cities and landmarks will you visit?
SU Team: Explore beyond Tilburg and Leiden to discover Den Bosch, Den Haag, Katwijk aan Zee, and more! Experience the thrill of the largest funfair in the Benelux, the Efteling theme park, and the cultural richness of the Wereldmuseum.
GT: What else will you do for fun?
SU Team: Get ready for non-stop fun! From European Nights to game nights, movie marathons, and karaoke extravaganzas, we’ve got it all covered. Plus, we’ll add an adventurous twist with hitchhiking and outdoor games.
GT: How much is the fee and what is included in it?
SU Team: The fee is 192 Euros for 10 days and this will include accommodation, two meals per day of which at least one will be warm, transportation in the Netherlands, bikes, and all activities except the Efteling.
GT: What about the optional fee?
SU Team: The optional fee is 47 Euros and this includes tickets to the Efteling, a Dutch theme park near Tilburg with lots of fun attractions.
GT: Who is the ideal participant?
SU Team: We are seeking participants eager to explore the unknown, asking questions they didn’t even know they had. Biking skills are a plus, as bikes will be our main mode of transport. But it’s not just about biking – it’s about connecting with fellow participants and actively engaging in the programme. Apply now and join us on this journey of discovery and camaraderie!
GT: What makes AEGEE-Leiden and AEGEE-Tilburg so special?
SU Team: AEGEE-Leiden is one of the founding locals of the AEGEE network and the only founding local in the Netherlands. Furthermore, Leiden is the oldest student city in the Netherlands so we have a very diverse and rich student culture. AEGEE-Tilburg is very welcoming to internationals, so much so that our current board is fully international. At the same time we cherish our close friendship with our fellow Brabanders in Eindhoven. A lot of people are member of both locals.
