SU Wien & Budapest 2023: a Royal Summer Experience

A legendary empire returns for ten days – at the Summer University “Tales of Austria-Hungary: The Empire Smiles Back”. AEGEE-Budapest and AEGEE-Wien organise this creative summer experience event from 4th to 13th of August 2023.

GT: What is the main topic of your SU this year?
SU Team: The main topic is walking on the paths of Austria-Hungary as royals, while enjoying local places, food, drinks, gastronomy, learning German and Hungarian, how to waltz and of course, making international royal friends!

GT: Why did you choose the topic?
SU Team: We all want to be royals sometimes, don’t we? Our Empire’s residents are the best to Smile Back at You, prepare for the 10-day-long ceremony!

GT: What will be the thematic highlights of the SU?
SU Team: We will do some interactive activities about AEGEE in general as well as a sexual harassment workshop in the first days of the event. The rest is confidential, only the worthy kings and queens will find out!

GT: Which cities and landmarks will you visit?
SU Team: We’ll introduce you to one of the most liveable cities; Vienna with historical places and hikes, followed by Budapest’s amazing ruin/royal pubs. We will also enjoy three days at Central Europe’s biggest lake: Balaton featuring Káptalanfüred and Tihany.

GT: What else will you do for fun?
SU Team: Prepare, because we will organise two concerts for our participants, both of them great house parties! We will also chill at Schönbrunn castle and learn how to waltz, go for a hike and picnic in Vienna as well as going on a boat trip at Lake Balaton!

GT: How much is the fee and what is included in it?
SU Team: 160 Euro, which includes the accommodation, food and programmes like the boat trip and concerts as well as public transport.

GT: How much is the optional fee?
SU Team: In case you want to live the fullest experience, 50 more Euro and you can dive into one of the famous Hungarian thermal spas and take part in a wine tasting! We wouldn’t miss it for sure!

GT: Who is the ideal participant?
SU Team: The ideal participant knows how to walk like royalty, enjoys tasting new, delicious local food and drinks, wishes to learn to waltz and folk dances, longs for all-night parties and is not afraid of German and Hungarian language workshops!

GT: What can you tell us about your AEGEE locals?
SU Team: AEGEE-Wien is just freshly out of the oven after their revival, thus we are extremely motivated to show you what we can do! As last year’s Strategic Planning Meeting was a blast, AEGEE-Budapest people would like to continue organising something for AEGEEans, but we would like to pump our summer up with a party this time!
